Bismarck, ND (WDAY TV) -- While you might not see a lot of surfing in the landlocked state of North Dakota, One retired surfer is teaching about a much calmer standing water sport.
He's 64-years-old, and goes by the name Avalon. Avalon lives and works in Florida, but comes back to his hometown of Bismarck every summer.
This summer he is giving paddleboarding lessons. He says surfing in Florida got to be a little too hard for him so he picked up standing paddleboarding around a year and a half ago. Now, he's looking for anyone else in the area, who is interested in trying something new.
Avalon says, " It is a little strenuous in the beginning, but once you get used to it, just take your time and calm waters, it's easy to do."
The lessons cost 45 dollars for 2 hours, he supplies the board and paddle -- and you do practice on land before hitting the water.
