Bismarck, ND (WDAY TV) -- Growth from the oil patch is now leaking into Bismarck and Burleigh County -- putting a strain on its staff and resources.

Departments heads in the county are asking for 17 new employees, 12 of those are directly related to the oil boom. Law enforcement is at the top of the list.

The county is asking for enough money to add 6 deputies and a corrections officer. Prosecutors say they are on pace to handle 250 more felony cases than a year ago. That department wants to bump its staff of attorneys from 9 to 14.

Bismarck's population has grown by about 2-thousand people since 2010.
