Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- This year marks the lowest number of licenses available since 1988.
Game and Fish started with 65,000 deer licenses this year. After the first lottery 32,000 people didn't get a tag. Now those who weren't drawn have the chance to snag one of 5,800 licenses left in the second lottery.
Randy Kreil with the ND Game and Fish says, "Last year was a tremendously nice winter, it was basically no winter in terms of deer mortality, we didn't have any adult mortality and all the doe's that came through the winter that were pregnant came through just fine, we expect a good healthy fawn crop and it's a good start to rebounding the population."
The low numbers are due to fewer deer after 3 difficult winters.
