Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- Officials call brain injuries the hidden disability. Most of the time, you wouldn't even know someone has one.
The Head Injury Association says that's why brain injury victims need emotional support. The association is looking for volunteers for a peer mentor program.
The peer mentors are trained to interact, support, and advise the victims. It says brain injuries changes a person's personality, and makes them react differently to certain situations, so they'll need extra assistance.
Mary Simonson - Head Injury Association says, "Either help them a the acute stage when they are at the hospital, trying to meet the trauma the family and individual are experiencing as well as life-long."
