Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- American Indian communities in North and South Dakota are becoming safer thanks to an annual training conference.
The 17th annual Offering Hope to Victims in the Spirit of Justice is being held at the Holiday Inn in Fargo. U.S Attorney's from North Dakota and South Dakota joined law enforcement, victim service providers, and several other agencies for the training.
The three day conference focuses on problems in each community like child abuse and human trafficking, and ways to solve those problems. North Dakota US Attorney Timothy Purdon says these conferences significantly impact reservations.
Purdon says, "Our outreach efforts I feel have definitely improved communication between my office and the reservations, we formed some great partnerships, and we are certainly seeing the results when it comes to our cases, the number of criminal cases that my office files on the reservation is up 70% in two years, as a result of these outreach efforts."
The conference wraps up on Thursday.
