Grand Forks, ND (WDAY TV) - Our hot, dry weather is wreaking havoc on people's lawns. But there are things you can do to help keep your lawn lush and green longer.

Many are racking up huge water bills. For some that seems like the only solution.

Landscape experts say the best thing to do to try to keep the grass healthy is deeply soaking your lawn, giving the grass about an inch of water every time you water it, but that shouldn't be too often.

Darlene Shea, Shea's Nursery and Landscaping, says, "Typically every week, depending on the weather maybe every 10 days because of the fact that you don't want to get too used to the water either."

Shea also recommends having a weed killer on hand, because weeds are still growing, even if the grass isn't.
