Lisbon becomes 9th North Dakota city to pass smoke-free law

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A state agency that administers money from a tobacco settlement says Lisbon is the ninth city in North Dakota to pass a smoke-free ordinance.

Lisbon's city council voted earlier this month to adopt an ordinance that makes all public places and workplaces smoke-free, including bars.

Officials with North Dakota's Center for Tobacco Prevention and Control Policy says Lisbon joins Bismarck, Cavalier, Devils Lake, Fargo, Grand Forks, Napoleon, Pembina and West Fargo as cities with smoke-free policies.

The group says the Linton city council is planning to vote Aug. 6 on a smoke-free ordinance.

Smoke-Free North Dakota is collecting signatures for a ballot initiative that aims to ban smoking in all indoor workplaces. The group needs to turn in at least 13,452 signatures by midnight Aug. 8.
