Gilby, ND (WDAY TV) -- A huge birthday celebration today for the small town of Gilby, North Dakota. The town is celebrating 125 years -- and the people there are hoping for another 125 years to come.

Singing, laughing, and candy filled the air as residents gathered to celebrate the town of Gilby's 125th.

Edith Johnson: "It's great. I'm getting to see people I haven't seen in many years."

Tisha: "It's a lot of fun up here."

The birthday party for the town of 237 included shopping, train rides and an hour-long parade with more than 100 participants.

The town itself isn't the only thing celebrating a milestone.

Midway is celebrating 50 years of graduating classes with an all-school reunion.

Andrea Stroh: "I got to see all of my old classmates. It was great. I really enjoyed it."

Edith Johnson: "I'm very glad its still going strong. My kids went there, my grandkids went there, now they graduated so maybe my great grandkids will go there."

While the goal of many is filling a bag with candy, some party-goers have a different mission...

Not dying from the heat. Trying to stay cool.

Andrea Stroh: These little towns are dying, and to bring everybody together like this is just so cool.

The event continues tonight, with a street dance.
