Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- When Sanford Health soon builds its multi-million dollar hospital in Fargo, children with life threatening illnesses will have the "Cullen Foundation" to thank for a pediatric play-room and therapeutic center.

The 3-thousand square foot "Cully's Kids Area" will be open when the new Sanford facility opens in four years.

Far from any spotlight, Matt Cullen is just as comfortable in a room of "his kids" His Cully Kids--than he is as a leader and tenacious Wild player on the ice.

Here with his Cully's Kids.

"How is your summer going?"

These are just a few of the kids, some with life long disabiliites or illnesses who benefit from the Cully's Kids Foundation, who have known Matt and Bridget Cullen since this whole journey started.

"What grade you going into?"

What you don't see or hear about, are the quiet visits the Cullens make to their Cully Kids in hospitals during the year. It is part of who they are. Growing up here, with the values that you help out when you can, if you can.

Bridget Cullen/Cullen Children's Foundation: "I feel so blessed, and I feel if I can give back in this way, we are making a difference and cannot imagine not doing it."

Matt Cullen/Cullen Children's Foundation: "One of those things that comes along once in a lifetime and we are so lucky to be in a position to do that."

It has been an amazing journey for the Cullens what started as a simple effort to raise a few thousand over the years , has now raised three million dollars for children in the community.

Matt: "We are not going to be able to fund a cure for kids cancer but make their life better when they are in treatment, that is what it is all about for us and so this is a way to have an impact for a long time."

And as Cullen handed Sanford a check for the new Cully's Kids area, everyone quickly realized the sincerity and honesty behind this charity has forever changed the lives of every kids around him.

Tomorrow at Newman Outdoor Field, the foundation will put on the big Cully's Kids Picnic.
