Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- Christian Ponder made his first ever visit to Fargo today. Ponder tied a Vikings record with 10 starts as a rookie quarterback last season. He produced 13 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Just imagine what he could've done with a full off-season of work.
This time around, he has no excuses, and says both he, and the team, should be better in 2012...
Christian Ponder: "We're ready! It's a different feel this year, more comfortable all the way around. The good thing about 3-13 is you can only go up."
How far up? is the question this season for the Vikings. And, as it usually does, much of that improvement centers around Ponder. His teammates, like center John Sullivan, are well aware of it.
Ponder: "As sullivan said today, we'll go as far as our QB takes us.....I gotta play better. Gotta cut down on the turnovers especially...I made a lot of good plays last year, lotta dumb plays.the Good plays give me more confidence going in, and knowing this is my team."
There'll be no "place holders" like Donovan McNabb this season. The vikings have made it clear, with what they've done this offseason, adding offensive pieces, that this is Ponder's team all the way.
Ponder: "Gives me confidence knowing they're buidling around me. Jerome simpson, I've been impressed with. Tight end John Carlson, drafting Matt Kahlil, drafting 2 receivers this year."
Most experts are picking the Vikings last in their division and aren't expecting much of an improvement over 3-13. Not surprisingly, that's not how the team feels.
Ponder: "Went 3-13 last year, but 9 of those games were very close....Lotta people are doubting us, but I think we're gonna surprise people this season."
Vikings training camp begins exactly 2 weeks from today.
