Detroit Lakes, MN (WDAY TV) -- A special honor for Detroit Lakes, and the city is proud and preparing for the big day.

Governor Mark Dayton is scheduled to come to Detroit Lakes to inaugurate the city August 22nd into the Yellow Ribbon Program. The project serves all those who served in the military, past and present, including their families.

The idea is to establish a support system to help military families when someone is on deployment, and when they return home.

Carrie Johnston, Detroit Lakes chamber member, says, "just the veterans history of the area, 10 percent of our community and county are vets and huge outpouring and support during deployment and as a veteran."

The Becker County Veterans Service Office will also hold a veteran's fair August 22. For more on the program click on the Easy Link tab.
