Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- If you've driven by the Bison Sports Arena or Newman Outdoor field lately, you may have noticed a large building sprouting up from the ground on campus.

That large building will house the NDSU track and field teams this fall and for decades to come.

In all it's a 78,000 square foot building, that will boast a track with 8 lanes, instead of the current 6 inside the BSA.

There's also going to be room for up to 1-thousand spectators. Women's track coach Ryun Godfrey can't wait to have a building that his track program can call home.

Godfrey says, "this is the first year we're scheduling our indoor season not based around the basketball season. So it's exciting for us. Now it's 'these are the weekends that work well for us,' let's do this. It should be very competitive next year and in a new place."

NDSU hopes to open the building with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on homecoming weekend in early October.
