Bismarck, ND (WDAY TV) -- A murder is discovered while responding to a crash and prosecutors in Bismarck say it was pre-meditated.
John Bridges of Missoula, Montana has been charged with murder and kidnapping. Authorities say they found the body of Lee Clay in the back of this van Friday.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol came across the vehicle in the median along I-94 just east of Bismarck.
Clay's injuries didn't match the accident and authorities found a hatchet and knife in the van.
Lloyd Suhr - Assistant Burleigh County States Attorney: "There's also overwhelming evidence that the homicide was premeditated based upon the purchase of various instruments used in the homicide and it was an extremely violent offense."
No bond was set. Bridges had only been in the state since July 2nd and has a violent history in Illinois including a juvenile conviction for homicide.
