Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- A fancy new bridge is coming to town.
The walking bridge over the river that connects Lindenwood and Gooseberry Parks is finally being retired. For years, cranes have been brought in to raise and lower the bridge before and after floods.
Now, the city and the Fargo Park District are joining together to bring in a lift bridge, similar to the one at the Duluth Harbor. A Federal Grant will help pay the 1-million dollar tab on the project which begins this week.
Dave Leeker with the Fargo Park District says, "this one will have 2 superstructures on each side, which will have a cabling system that can raise and lower the bridge with a push of a button basically so."
The new bridge should be in place by October.
