Cooperstown man convicted of killing NDSU researcher to be sentenced August 1st

Cooperstown, ND (WDAY TV) - A Cooperstown man accused of killing an NDSU researcher, after a severed head was found in his basement, will soon be sentenced.

Cooperstown, ND (WDAY TV) - A Cooperstown man accused of killing an NDSU researcher, after a severed head was found in his basement, will soon be sentenced. A Griggs County jury found 31 year-old Daniel Wacht guilty in April. He's accused of killing 54 year-old Kurt Johnson.

Johnson was last seen alive in 2010 being helped into Wacht's van outside a Cooperstown bar on New Year’s Eve. The victim's severed head was found buried in a crawl space in Wacht's basement. His body wasn't recovered.

Wacht will be sentenced August 1st. The maximum sentence he could get is life in prison, without the chance of parole.
