Bemidji, MN (WDAY TV) -- A 2010 Bemidji High School grad -- is awarded the purple heart while serving in Afghanistan.
Karisa Mole is an airborne military police specialist with the U-S Army,
and was injured in May when an IED struck the Humvee she was in.
The 20 year old suffered a concussion and hurt neck. She told her mom she was lucky -- the accident happened just hours after being involved in a firefight.
Mole returned to her unit 2 weeks later. Her husband, who's also deployed, was injured a day after Mole received the purple heart.
He's currently recovering in Germany.
