(WDAY TV) -- It's been an up and down season for Twins first baseman Justin Morneau, but the former MVP is starting to heat up, he has an 8-game hitting streak and last night.

He hit his first home run in over a month. Morneau says he's using a little advice from a fellow Canadian slugger.

Morneau says, "Larry Walker said to me once the only stat I ever cared about was trying to go one for one in my next at-bat. That's a guy with an over 300 career average and had a very good career. When you simplify the game like that sometimes it makes it easier, and you just try and put whatever the numbers are behind you and take a good approach to the next at-bat. I had some better at-bats tonight and was able to put some good swings on the ball and we win the ball game."
