Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) - Preliminary reports indicate there were no fatal traffic deaths on the 4th of July holiday. The 4th is typically the deadliest day on the road in Minnesota.

Troopers say the preliminary reports are a good sign that the increased patrols and education are working. In the last three years, Minnesota had 15 traffic deaths on the 4th, and 14 were a result of alcohol related crashes.

Sgt. Jesse Grabow – Minnesota State Patrol: β€œIt's taken years to get to this point, again you know everything from the engineering stand points, to the way highways are made, vehicles are made, along with emergency responses, everything has come together and again so hopefully we can build on and keep that trend of saving more lives on the way on the highway and keeping everybody safe.”

Official numbers haven't been released, but Grabow says it is unlikely there will be a death reported with the finished reports.
