(WDAY TV) -- The 4th of July is one of the "deadliest" day on the roads. With many people traveling to the lakes, troopers are asking drivers to use extreme caution.

On a normal weekend in Minnesota, troopers hand out between one and 200 DWI's.

Over the 4th of July holiday, arrests top 15-hundred. Drinking and driving is a factor in nearly 66-percent of deaths during the 4th.

If you are traveling you will also see more troopers on the road in North Dakota, but it may not be quite as busy as Minnesota.

Sgt. Jesse Grabow with the MN State Patrol says, "It just depends on, you put that much traffic on the highways at that time it just kind of creates a chance for bad things to happen."

There may be more traffic fatalities during the holiday because more people are traveling.
