National group pushes for consumer-free 4th of July

(WDAY TV) -- Celebrating the 4th of July without fireworks. Well, without setting off your own.

The Alliance to Stop Consumer Fireworks is pushing for a consumer-free 4th of July. The national group is made up with doctors and fire officials.

They say in 20-10 alone, more than 15 thousand 500 fires were started by consumers. Plus, 8 thousand people were hurt.

It's suggesting people leave firecrackers to the professionals.

Carli says, "the majority of fireworks injuries actually happens with sparklers. And I think a lot of people feel those are a fairly safe item. But a sparkler can burn at about 12 hundred degrees Fahrenheit."
