Bemidji, MN (WDAY TV) -- We dodged severe weather tonight. Bemidji did not.

Seventy to eighty mile an hour winds pummeled Bemidji and surrounding areas tonight. Huge trees are uprooted, and telephone poles have been knocked down, taking out phone service. Some business signs have been destroyed.

The storm hit just after 7 Monday evening. The National Weather Service is reporting Itasca State Park has been hit hard. Some campers are trapped because so many trees are down. Only emergency travel is being advised.

The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead will make the Bemidji Pioneer Press tonight and ship it to Detroit Lakes overnight for printing.
