Hotels, recreation businesses booked for Fourth of July

Detroit Lakes, MN (WDAY TV) - With the 4th of July falling on a Wednesday, it's hard for businesses to predict what tourists and locals will do during the holiday week.

    Detroit Lakes, MN (WDAY TV) -- A unique twist this week for those in the summer tourism business. With the 4th of July falling on a Wednesday, it's hard to predict what people are doing for time off.

Detroit Lakes, MN (WDAY TV) - With the 4th of July falling on a Wednesday, it's hard for businesses to predict what tourists and locals will do during the holiday week. In the Detroit Lakes area, hotels are booked for the 4th, but businesses are finding some families are choosing a weekend on either end of the holiday to celebrate.

SOL Surf Company is already sold out. Paddleboards for rent and sale are a hot commodity during this warm weather the week of the fourth. It's the first year for paddleboard rental here, and it's so popular this summer, the owner had to order more.

Ben Magnuson – SOL Surf Company: “Pretty simple we have a crew from Florida, Daytona Beach and they have never done it before and so it is cool they are up here in Minnesota doing it now so.”

Magnuson says people as young as 8 and as old as 80 use the paddleboard. All it takes is a quick 10 minute tutor lesson, and you are off.
