Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) -- Usually during the summer, homeless shelter populations dwindle, but this year, that's not the case at Churches United.

The shelter is making room for two-to-three more families a night, on top of the 8 that it already has room for.

Shelter Director John Roberts says many come up here expecting to find employment, but can't find affordable housing.

Churches United runs at a capacity of roughly 65 beds - right now they're sleeping 80-people a night, only a slight decrease from the winter.

John Roberts, Churches United Director, says, "while there's low unemployment and it's working for some in our area, it's just not working for others."

Roberts says he is also seeing more single women that need shelter this summer.
