Fargo Police hosting Annual Community Picnic

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Fargo Police are hosting their annual Community Picnic. It's a chance for police and other agencies to meet and talk with the people of Fargo in a more casual, fun setting.

Fargo Police are hosting their annual Community Picnic. It's a chance for police and other agencies to meet and talk with the people of Fargo in a more casual, fun setting.

Gorgeous weather and lots to do tonight at Island Park as the Police Department's 17th community picnic is underway.

It's a great chance to meet our dedicated police force; even a few retired squad cars from Bonanzaville have showed up here at Island Park.

From bounce houses shaped like a giant police officer to pony rides, there's plenty for the whole family down at Island Park tonight.

Plenty of people are already here, coming from as far away as Detroit Lakes to enjoy the fun.

We've also got the Cass County Sheriff's office, the fire department and several other agencies on hand.

I spoke with Police Chief Keith Ternes earlier about why these kinds of events are so important for the community.

Keith Ternes – Fargo Police Chief: “I think getting to know officers on a personal basis in a very informal way, provides with a great opportunity to have that interaction with the community.”

Now the event goes until 8 tonight, and remember, there’s free food.

It's a great chance to meet some of Fargo's finest and make-out with a free dinner for the whole family.
