After scoring the top jump in the qualifying round, former Bison Amanda Tieschaffer, now Smock, entered as tonight's favorite to land a spot on team USA.
The former NDSU all-American needed to finish in the top three to move onto London.
That was no problem, as Smock out jumped the rest of the field, with a winning leap of 45 feet 9 inches on her first jump, 4 and a half inches better than her nearest competitor. She becomes the fifth former NDSU athlete to qualify for the Olympics, the first since 1992.
