Long Drive Competition in Moorhead

Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) -- It was a scene straight of Happy Gilmore this afternoon, as many area golfers took part in the Re-Max Long Drive competition hoping to qualify for the regional rounds this August.

Several guys were driving the ball in the mid-300 yard range.

Nonetheless, competitions like this one held at the Meadows in Moorhead

are getting more popular by the day.

Corey Herlickson, the Meadows head golf pro, says, "some of these guys are going to be able to hit it, possibly as far as some of the longer guys out there.The differences between the local distances and the distances at the worlds is the altitude is a little bit higher at the worlds and and the fairways. They mow it to about fairway hight, maybe even green hight so you get a lot more roll."
