(WDAY TV) -- It's one thing to be selected in the NHL draft, but it may be even a little sweeter, to be chosen by the Stanley Cup Champions! That's the reality for Grand Forks native Paul Ladue today.

The Los Angeles Kings chose the former Central Knight in the 6th round, 181st overall.

Ladue becomes the first Grand Forks native to be selected in the draft since Ryan Potulny back in 2003.

The UND-bound defenseman had a terrific year with Lincoln of the USHL, leading all defenseman with a plus-minus of 36. Ladue is expected to play with the Stars one more season before heading to UND.
