(WDAY TV) -- The future of the NHL was showcased tonight in Pittsburgh. As the NHL draft got underway.

The Minnesota Wild have an abundance of young talent coming up and they added to it tonight.

Drafting defenseman Matthew Dumba with the 7th overall pick. Dumba played the last two seasons for the Red Deer Rebels in the Western Hockey league, and was rookie of the year back in 2010-11.

Experts say the 17-year old is a hard hitter with a big shot and plenty of offensive skill. Sounds like just the type of player Minnesota needs.

Russian forward Nail Yakupov went number one to Edmonton. Meanwhile,

future UND defenseman Jordan Schmaltz was chosen 25th overall by the St. Louis Blues.
