Minot park opens a year after Souris River flooding

MINOT, N.D. (AP) — A year after one of Minot's largest parks was flooded by the Souris River, the park is open again.

City officials held a ceremony Friday afternoon to mark the reopening of Oak Park. More than 300 people came on a bright, calm summer day.

There was a brief moment of silence to remember the moment a year ago when warning sirens told Minot residents they should evacuate the city.

More than 12,000 people had to flee and more than 4,000 homes were inundated.

Minot Mayor Curt Zimbleman says the park looks great, but the city's flood recovery is far from over.
