Unique statue greets visitors in Wahpeton

Wahpeton, ND (WDAY TV) -- A unique "greeter at the Giants Snacks sunflower plant just outside Wahpeton.

Wahpeton, ND (WDAY TV) -- A unique "greeter at the Giants Snacks sunflower plant just outside Wahpeton.

Crews used a crane to lower a bison on to a concrete base. The bison is the logo used by Giants Sunflower seeds.

Ken Nyberg made the metal Bison. He used a couple of hundred lawn mower blades for the front, and cut metal pieces for the rear end.

The Vining man is well known for his sculptures throughout town and the county. He says using lawn mower blades an be a little tricky.

Ken Nyberg - Metal Artist: "I have to put in the stove to pound it and temper it and shape it and grind the edges and shape each one individually."

Other animal sculptures by Nyberg include an elephant, otter, giraffe, panther, bear. Many of them: school mascots.
