GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — A man accused of firing a hunting rifle at his apartment roommate in Grand Forks has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder.
Defense attorney Blake Hankey says 26-year-old Travis Samshal had been threatened by the roommate and was defending himself when he fired a 7 mm rifle in the direction of 34-year-old Leon Franco last Dec. 14. Hankey says Samshal deliberating missed.
The Grand Forks Herald reports that Samshal's trial is scheduled to begin Aug. 16. He faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
