It's just one more sign North Dakota may have the strongest economy in the United States. A new budget report says the state will have a 2-billion dollar surplus by next summer. It means about 850-million spendable dollars in the general fund, up from the 592 million predicted in March. The rest of the money can only be accessed if there's a revenue shortfall.
SEN. Tim Mathern β (D) North Dakota: βIt's an indicator that property taxes are out of whack in North Dakota, so with part of this money we can reform property taxes in such a way that there is a reduction of property taxes for residents of the state.β
Legislators will decide how the money should be spent in January.
