(WDAY TV) -- For the first time since 2009, the World of Outlaws returned to Red river valley speedway last night.
The shorter track meant a near capacity crowd saw more side by side racing than in past years.
Fargo's Donny Schatz made a move all the way up to 2nd with 12 laps left. He ended up 3rd, the best finish in his past 7 races. It was also good enough for Schatz to regain the series points lead.
But it was veteran Sammy Swindell who edged Chad Kemenah to end up winning. Swindell led for the final 8 laps in claiming his series-leading 5th victory of the season.
Swindell says, "It's great, I've had a lot of success, won a lot of races here at the older track and it's nice to get this one here. When you race here like tonight, that was a lot of fun. Chad and Donny always give you a fair fight. When you can do that, race close with people and just the best guy wins."
Schatz says, "We had a decent run, we were 3rd, had a good enough car to get up there and win if the race woulda stayed green but it didn't, we got the yellows and we gotta get that worked out a bit. All in all, it's been a decent weekend."
