"Cowboy Action Shooting" in Ransom County

Enderlin, ND (WDAY TV) -- Deep in the woods of Sheyenne River Valley of Ransom County this weekend, there is gunfire. Three full days of some serious "shoot em up" competition. It is called "cowboy action shooting."

Enderlin, ND (WDAY TV) -- Deep in the woods of Sheyenne River Valley of Ransom County this weekend, there is gunfire. Three full days of some serious "shoot em up" competition. It is called "cowboy action shooting."

Meet Dead-Eye Jake from South Dakota, who packs a pistol instead of a video game.

Jake is 10 year old Jacob Mass, who like dozens of others are at Dakotas State Cowboy Action compeition near Enderlin. Young people are becoming a welcome part of the fast growing pastime.

Jacob Maas/Deadeye Jake: "The kids get to some of the real veterans shoot up targets in seconds. Rifles. Pistols. John Wayne would be proud."

Lil Ursa or Abigail Starz came up fropm St. Cloud to show off her shooting skills. The 10 year old leaving behind her summertime friends for a weekend at the range.

Abigayle Starz/Lil' Ursa: "They all camp and shoot the entire weekend. The Sheyenne Valley Peackeepers Shooting Club hosts them all in this replica Gunsmoke Little House on the Prairie village."

Margaret..or Little Tree started shooting just a few years ago. Now she is stiff competition for the veteran bearded shooters.

Her friends back in the suburbs have to ask twice when asking about weekend plans.

Margaret Mengelkoch/Little Tree: "It is fast becoming a family sport. Far from the I-pads Smart phones and lap tops, a few days when yesterday seems pretty appealing."
