Cannon Falls, MN (WDAY TV) -- A southern Minnesota community is in an all out flood fight tonight.
Cannon Falls is evacuating two dozen people who live along the Cannon and Little Cannon Rivers after more than 8 inches of rain fell Thursday. Police say the Little Cannon River rose more than 3 feet since early this morning.
The Cannon River rose more than 2 feet, which is a level not experienced since the September 2010 flood. Several roads are closed because of flooding, which includes Highway 20.
Crews have started sandbagging at several locations.
William Lacefield who's business has flooded says, "Heavy to extreme heavy rain, it was about 6 hours of rain. I've never seen rain that heavy, that long."
Roger Swanson, who lives by the river, says, "Last time it never touched the bags so I don't know if the sandbags, I've never been up on the Red River, I don't know if stuff holds."
Gas has been shut off to homes as a precaution.
