Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- There's a tradition every year that happens on Flag Day, somewhat of a funeral for all of the old -- worn out American flags.

The Amvets in Fargo holds a ceremony to retire those flags. This year they had more than 500 on the list.

If your flag is faded or has any tears, you're supposed to take it to a local VFW, American Legion or Amvets center, and it'll go through this ceremony.

Anton Edward Kania - Color Guard Commander: "To me the American flag stand for freedom for all of us American people."

The flags will now be incinerated.
