Otter Tail boy making good recovery after black powder explosion

Minnetonka, MN (WDAY TV) -- A 17-year-old rural Ottertail boy is making a good recovery after being burned in a black powder explosion last month.

Minnetonka, MN (WDAY TV) -- A 17-year-old rural Ottertail boy is making a good recovery after being burned in a black powder explosion last month.

Ryan Melchior's father says his son is expected to be released from a twin cities hospital in the next couple days..

The Perham High School student suffered second-degree burns on about 20 percent of his skin when some 80 year old black powder he was trying to burn exploded May 30. Doctors applied skin grafts from the teen's thighs to his chest and arms.

A fund for Ryan's benefit has been set up at the General Mills Federal Credit Union. Donations can be sent to the Ryan Melchior Fund, C/O General Mills Federal Credit Union, 9999 Wayzata Blvd., Minnetonka, MN 55305
