Man Facing Roseau County Check Forgery Charges

A Brooklyn Park, MN, man is facing charges after Roseau police say he forged hundreds of dollars worth of checks in the city. 38-year-old Maurice Williams made his first court appearance Thursday.

A Brooklyn Park, MN, man is facing charges after Roseau police say he forged hundreds of dollars worth of checks in the city.

38-year-old Maurice Williams made his first court appearance Thursday on two counts of offering a forged check.

Roseau Police say he forged more than $600 worth of checks in the city, but authorities are also investigating forged checks at various businesses in Roseau, Strathcona and Warroad starting in October of 2010.

Williams was also placed under arrest for a warrant out of Stearns County for check forgery.

Authorities say he was purchasing large amounts of baby formula and cigarettes with forged checks.

Williams is being held at the Roseau County Detention Center.

cases involving forged checks under several different names since November 3,

2010. The forged checks started showing up in October of 2010 at various businesses in the

cities of Roseau, Strathcona and Warroad.
