Detroit Lakes, MN (WDAY TV) -- There's a new titletown and it's Lakes Country after the dominating performance put on by the Detroit Lakes boys and girls golf teams the last two days. The boys were going for a 2nd straight state title.

The team title was theirs, for the 2nd straight year....by the slimmest of margins.

Earlier in the day, history was made by the Laker girls, led by 8th grader Kate Smith....

Smith has just enough to get the birdie to drop on the 15th...she sizzled on the back to the tune of 2-under...

Teammate Trissa Hutchinson makes par on 14...she carded her 2nd straight 77 and finished in 4th place...

Smith showed all facets today...great shot from the sand on 16 to save par...

Then on the very tough final hole, #18, Smith calmly drains the par...she shot 2-under 70 for the 2nd day in a row to win state medalist honors. The 140 ties the AA state record.

And the Laker girls also win the state championship...by 35 shots...it's their 2nd state title, first since '06.
