Sioux Nickname vote creates tension

(WDAY TV) -- It's an anxious time for everyone at UND in anticipation of tomorrow's statewide vote on the Sioux nickname. The tension doesn't stop at the North Dakota border.

(WDAY TV) -- It's an anxious time for everyone at UND in anticipation of tomorrow's statewide vote on the Sioux nickname. The tension doesn't stop at the North Dakota border.

It extends to the Big Sky offices in Ogden, Utah, where Doug Fullerton is also keeping a watchful eye on Measure 4.

Fullerton is the commissioner of the Big Sky, who's been very outspoken saying that if UND keeps the nickname, its future in the league is up in the air...I asked him how he feels heading into tomorrow.

Fullerton says, "We are very supportive of the University of North Dakota and very anxious to see the vote come down on the 12th. We've refrained from getting to much into the "what if's" because you get yourself wrapped up in all the answers. And we don't even know for sure what the question is going to be yet. So, we're going to wait. It's up to citizens of North Dakota to go to the ballot and we'll see what happens on that. So, we're just in a holding pattern right now."

Fullerton tells me the league presidents will meet on Wednesday and react then.
