Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) -- Just when you thought traffic in downtown Moorhead couldn't get worse...
Firefighters and Police had to evacuate a small number of people and shutdown traffic at Main and 8th this morning, after a contractor doing work on Main Avenue, hit a 2-inch gas line.
Xcel Energy crews happened to be nearby and responded to pinch of the leak, but traffic was snarled for about a half hour, as crews made the repairs.
Greg Doeden, with the Moorhead Fire Department says, "we had previous call on 2nd street and they just responded to do that and they were able to respond 12 blocks away and got here quick and went to a remote valve and shut it down it was a two inch line."
It is fortunate Xcel was working close by. The call came in at 11:08 there was a line struck. 6-minutes later, the leak was shut off.
A full repair was done within the hour.
