Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) - There were some tense moments in that busy construction zone in downtown Moorhead. Firefighters and police had to evacuate a small number of people and shutdown traffic at Main and 8th this morning after a contractor doing work on Main Avenue hit a two inch gas line.
Xcel Energy crews happened to be nearby and responded to pinch of the leak, but traffic was snarled for about a half hour as crews made the repairs.
Greg Doeden – Moorhead Assistant Chief: “A situation where the line was hit we got some workers to handle traffic until PD showed up and it worked out all right.”
Contractors that cut a gas line are billed by Xcel for the repairs.
