FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A Chicago truck driver accused of causing a fatal pileup during a blizzard in North Dakota has been sentenced to serve 10 days in jail.

Nenad Sibinovic pleaded guilty Monday to reckless endangerment.

Authorities say Sibinovic was driving too fast for conditions during the Dec. 30, 2010, storm and his actions led to the death of 50 year-old Lowell Balk of Walcott.

Balk died from injuries he suffered when he got out of his semitrailer to help others and was struck by a vehicle. About 100 vehicles were stranded on Interstate 94 west of Fargo.

Defense attorney Mark Beauchene says his client showed poor judgment but that there were other contributing factors to Balk's death.

Prosecutors say they hope the case deters others from making bad driving decisions.
