Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Thousands have stood before him, shaking in their boots and they likely walked away, with one of his great life lessons. Today at Fargo's Municipal Court longtime judge Tom Davies was honored and thanked for his more than 40 years on the bench.

It was a year ago that Davies was hospitalized after being diagnosed with a deadly battle with pancreatitis. He just returned to the bench in April.

Today, well-wishers came to greet Davies, who is well known for his quick wit and humor in the courtroom. He is a judge who made it clear to defendants they can turn their life around and was a firm believer in supporting stiffer DUI laws.

Judge Tom Davies – Retiring From the Bench: ”With college kids it is a challenge because they always come in the back door and knock you out of your shoes and I always thought I won those battles but I always thought I won those battles with my wife but she is a diplomat.”

Davies, who is 73, says he may be done with municipal court, but he will not be retiring from the law world he's known for so long.
