Fergus Falls, MN (WDAY TV) - The Fergus Falls Police Department is dealing with a deer problem. Last year, more than 15 deer were hit by cars in town.

Police are preparing an archery deer hunt in city limits. The police chief says they're researching what it takes to get one started. It would be in the fall, the same dates as they archery season.

Police say hunting would be on the edge of town, and only on property owned by the city. The next steps are determining which land to hunt, plus creating a proficiency test and lottery system.

Kile Bergren – Fergus Falls Police Chief: "Not that we are going to eradicate every deer in the city limits, but a lot of time they come here for refuge."

They say this may scare the deer into staying out of town.
