Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Have you ever looked up at the night sky and wondered just what exactly am I looking at? Well, there's an App for that. Google Sky Map is making star-gazing a little easier.

Space, the final frontier; if you're anything like me it all kind of looks the same, but thousands of years ago, astrologists created names for these groups of stars. Now, if we want to find out specifics about constellations, or just exactly what we're looking at in the night sky. All you need is your smart phone.

The application is called Google SkyMap. You simply point your cell phone to the sky. The app uses GPS and compass data, as well as the date and time to determine what you're looking at.

Let's say you're looking to discover the location of a planet. Simply use the search feature and the app will guide you to where you need to go. It also comes with a time travel feature, in case you want to know what your relatives were looking at centuries ago.

The application is free and available on the Android market. Similar applications are available on the Apple market as well.
