Fergus Falls, MN (WDAY TV) - A Fergus Falls woman is recovering from a serious dog attack. She had the back of her calf bitten off by a black-lab Rottweiler mix. Police say it sends a strong message, of the importance of keeping an eye on your pet.

Fergus Falls Police say just before 11 Tuesday morning, 55 year-old Victoria Munos was trying to catch her loose dog when the black-lab Rottweiler mix attacked.

Sgt Bruce Kolle – Fergus Falsl Police: "The dog bit her on the lower calf, and behind the knee, actually removing some skin so you can see muscle tissue underneath."

Police say she was rushed to Lakeview Hospital from her home in the 500 block of South Concord Street. Police turned to her neighbor, 26-year-old Andrew Bond for answers. He originally denied owning the dog. Police say never forget that you are responsible for your pet and what it does.

Sgt. Bruce Kolle: "The biggest issue is going to be a civil issue, as far as the medical bills and the recovery of the victim."

Dog owners say they keep theirs leashed dogs up for the fear of how it could react if in a threatening situation.

Terry Neubauer – Fergus Falls: "What am I supposed to say, ‘Oh I'm sorry, I'm sorry my dog attacked you?’ I wouldn't know how to deal with it to be totally honest."

Bond was cited for letting an unlicensed dog run at large, and allowing it to attack.

Both the victim and the dog owner wouldn't comment on camera. The Rottweiler is in the pound, under observation. Workers there say so far the dog isn't letting them come close.
