Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Over the last few weeks there have been a number of strange news stories involving what appear to be real life cases of zombies. It's even prompted the Center for Disease control to issues a statement saying there is no virus reanimating the dead. This all comes as interest in zombies is high and retailers are offering products to appeal to the zombie demand.

Last week in Miami, Florida police were called to the scene of a naked man actually eating the face of another man. This and two other prominent cases come as interest in the living dead has grown.

Richard Early – Owner, Paradox Comics: “It's probably a product of it appearing in the news because people know that zombie stuff is popular. So it's entirely possible that there could be some of these minor cases of cannibalism that have already happened, but are normally not going to be reported by the national news.”

Here at Paradox Comics in Fargo they are ready to satisfy the zombie craze.

Richard Early: “The key to the zombie market, especially in comics, is about the Walking Dead. Zombie stuff, much like we go through these phases where vampires were popular, certainly zombies are popular. I think it all kind of ties together a little bit.”

At the Outdoorsman in Fargo they ready to help you fend off any zombies there might be with zombie ammo for a zombie gun and even a scope to help you hone in on the walking dead.

Neil Nieman – The Outdoorsman Fargo: “It started before Christmas and they were a great stocking stuffer item. If you open up a display of your ammo and you have a zombie box in there people know that you’re prepared.”

There are zombie targets which even ooze green blood just to get you ready for the zombie apocalypse. How about zombie gnomes or “gnombies,” that are available on the internet if your tastes go more towards gardening then fighting the living dead. At the Applause Costume store in Moorhead there is even a zombie section to keep up with demand from events like the Zombie Pub Crawl and a planned Zombie Prom for the fall.

While the zombies of the horror films of the 1950's were the Walking Dead, the modern zombie has changed just like society. It now moves fast and is more likely to have been caused by some sort of strange run away disease.

The Red River Regional Marksmanship Center has been offering zombie shooting nights each time there is a Friday the thirteenth.
