Grand Forks, ND (WDAY TV) - Fighting Sioux nickname supporters are appealing a federal judge's decision to dismiss a lawsuit against the NCAA. A notice of intent to appeal was filed with the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Thursday by Reed Soderstrom.

The Minot attorney represents the pro-nickname Committee for Understanding and Respect from the Spirit Lake Tribe. They sued the NCAA over its efforts to have UND drop the nickname and logo.

Eunice Davison - Committee for Understanding and Respect: “We feel like we are totally being discriminated against. Our civil rights are being violated. We have never had a seat at the table to talk to any of these folks.”

North Dakota voters will decide if UND will be allowed to retire the fighting Sioux Nickname on June 12th.
