Drayton, ND (WDAY TV) - Locked out union workers and their supporters met in Drayton today to begin a nearly 200 mile journey to Moorhead. After nearly 11 months of the Crystal Sugar Lockout, workers want to talk with people along the valley about their hopes for a fair contract.
The Minnesota AFL-CIO organized the "Caravan For Cooperation and Negotiation." The caravan will make stops in Grafton, Oslo, Crookston, Belmont Park, East Grand Forks, Hillsboro and end with a vigil near the Crystal Sugar Headquarters in Moorhead.
Gary Granzotto – North Dakota AFL-CIO President: “For me it is bringing hope that genuine good faith negotiations will take place.”
Becki Jacobson – Moorhead Locked Out Worker: “It should look like we're serious, we want our jobs back and it's time for them to be serious and start doing something.”
John Riskey – Local BCTGM Union Representative: “It's a way to show we're still working and fighting for this and the other thing is to get out in the communities.”
Union negotiators will meet with American Crystal executives on June 8th.
